Travel of Swan International Youth Hostel (Changsha Wuyi Square)
Staying at this youth hostel in Changsha was an absolute highlight of my trip. Located on the top floor of the bustling Bopo International Building right on Jiefang West Road, it's incredibly convenient—just a short walk from the famous Taiping Old Street and only minutes away from Huangxing Pedestrian Street. Perfect for exploring local snacks, night markets, and soaking up the city’s vibrant atmosphere. The hostel itself has a cozy, artsy vibe with comfortable seating, tables, and a nice communal space where guests can hang out and play board games in the evening. One of the best features? The view from the lobby windows—clear sightlines to the Xiang River, especially beautiful at sunset. Prices are super reasonable: dorm beds start at just 50 RMB per night, with discounts available for weekly or monthly stays. Booking online or paying at the front desk is easy. Each guest receives a set of bedding upon check-in, but you’ll need to make your own bed and take it down before checkout. Access to the sleeping areas is secured via a key card—just swipe to enter and press a button to exit. If you want a lower bunk, arriving early in the afternoon is definitely recommended since they go fast. There’s also a movie projector in the evenings—great for a relaxed night in. The staff offers earplugs if needed, and there’s even a shared lunch option for 26 RMB per person (must book in advance). Room amenities are solid: slippers, lockers, bedside lights, and small shelves next to each bed. There’s a laundry area with hangers, washing machines, and dryers. Bathrooms come stocked with shampoo, shower gel, soap, towels, laundry detergent, hair dryers, and toilet paper—everything you’d need. Smoking is allowed in designated areas. Cleanliness is impressive; staff do a daily midday tidy-up of rooms and bathrooms, and supplies like toilet paper are replenished promptly. Overall, the service is friendly, the environment is welcoming, and the location can’t be beat. This place strikes the perfect balance between affordability, comfort, and social energy. I’d absolutely stay here again—and would recommend it to any budget-conscious traveler looking to experience real Changsha.
