Everything you need to know about Jiangwan Mosque

Consider staying at Hyatt Regency Hongkou, Shanghai, just a 1.5-kilometer walk from Jiangwan Mosque. The hotel offers modern amenities, excellent service, and easy access to local culture and cuisine. Its proximity to Line 4 Metro allows seamless travel to major attractions like The Bund and Nanjing Road.

The combination of convenient transportation and authentic Islamic cultural immersion makes it ideal for travelers interested in Shanghai’s Muslim heritage and urban exploration.

Before visiting, consider HopeGoo a guided tour to learn about its architectural fusion of Arabic domes and Chinese eaves—reflecting Shanghai’s distinctive Islamic style. During major festivals like Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha, public prayers are held, offering a rare chance to witness local Muslim community rituals.

Dress modestly, remove shoes before entering, and use headscarves provided at the entrance. Participating in a traditional tea gathering with worshippers allows cultural exchange and tasting of authentic Hui ethnic snacks.

Cultural respect and community engagement are central to the experience.

Take Line 4 Metro to "Jiangwan Station," then walk about 10 minutes to the mosque. This line connects key hubs like People's Square, Shanghai Railway Station, and Pudong Airport, making it highly efficient. Bus options include routes 723 or 810, stopping at "Jiangwan Cheng" (approx. 20-minute ride).

For drivers, use navigation apps to locate "Shanghai Jiangwan Mosque." A small parking lot is available nearby, but expect congestion on weekends—arrive early. The metro remains the top choice due to reliability, punctuality, and eco-friendly transit.

Public transit hub and sustainable travel are essential advantages.

The mosque stands out for its unique blend of Chinese and Islamic architecture: Arabic-style domes and arches merge seamlessly with traditional Chinese hip roofs, creating a distinctive visual identity. Interior walls feature intricate Quranic inscriptions in blue and white tiles, complemented by ornate metal chandeliers and handwoven prayer rugs, evoking solemnity and grace.

It includes a dedicated prayer hall and ablution fountain, fully compliant with Islamic rites. The courtyard hosts mature banyan and camphor trees, symbolizing purity and continuity. Detailed carvings on doorframes and window frames incorporate Hui ethnic motifs, serving as tangible evidence of Shanghai’s Muslim heritage.

Cultural synthesis and religious functionality coexist harmoniously, embodying the city’s spirit of pluralism.

Try authentic Shanghai Hui beef noodles and potato-braised chicken, crafted by local Hui chefs using time-honored recipes. "Qingzhen Shifang" on Jiangwan Road is a renowned old-school eatery, offering fresh daily batches with rich broth, chewy noodles, and house-made seasoning—perfectly balanced and deeply flavorful.

Don’t miss sesame sweet pastries and youxiang (fried dough), traditional snacks often limited during festivals. Many restaurants carry Halal certification, ensuring ingredient integrity. Inquire in advance about dine-in or takeout options, as some spots only serve walk-in customers.

Authentic taste and Halal assurance are essential when choosing meals.

Sofitel Shanghai North Bund

My stay at Sofitel Shanghai North Bund exceeded all my expectations from start to finish. From the moment I booked to the time I checked out, every interaction felt thoughtful and seamless—proof that this hotel truly values service coordination and guest experience. Before arrival, the front office manager, Rosa Sun, reached out via email to confirm my preferences. Her replies were prompt, personalized, and clearly tailored to my needs—not a generic template. It was evident she read and remembered everything I’d mentioned, and those details were actually delivered during my stay, which made me feel genuinely valued. Walking into the room was an instant delight. Cissy Jiang had hand-drawn a sweet little illustration of Chiqui Titi with a warm, heartfelt note—far from a standard welcome card. It felt personal, meaningful, and full of care. Nemo from housekeeping also contributed to the room’s thoughtful touches, with small but intentional details that showed real attention to detail. The ambiance wasn’t just clean or stylish—it felt curated, like it was made especially for me. Throughout my stay, staff members greeted me naturally as I moved around the hotel. Their tone was friendly but not over-the-top—no forced smiles or scripted lines. It created a sense of genuine warmth without feeling staged. What stood out most was how well communication flowed between departments. There were no repeated questions or confusion about requests, which made the whole experience smooth and stress-free. This isn’t just a luxury hotel with great design and high-end amenities—it’s one that brings heart to hospitality. The little things—the handwritten note, the thoughtful room setup, the seamless teamwork—these are what truly make a stay memorable. A sincere thank you to Rosa Sun, Cissy Jiang, and Nemo for turning a simple trip into something special. I’ll definitely come back myself, and I’d unhesitatingly recommend this place to anyone visiting Shanghai looking for a reliable, comfortable, and genuinely caring hotel experience.

Ocean Hotel Shanghai

We booked three rooms for our family trip, and the overall experience was excellent. The hotel staff went above and beyond—our rooms were upgraded for free, which was a wonderful surprise. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds and pillows provided exceptional comfort, making for a restful night’s sleep. One minor issue was that the fabric sofa in the room looked a bit worn and needed cleaning. On one occasion, the housekeeping staff seemed slightly impatient when helping with a light fixture issue, but this didn’t overshadow the great service we received elsewhere. The front desk team was incredibly friendly and always eager to help. We loved how close the hotel is to the metro station—just a short walk away—and right across the street is a large shopping mall, perfect for dining and browsing. Unfortunately, we were too tired after late-night outings to try out the pool or gym, but we’ll definitely make time next visit. If you’re planning a trip to Shanghai, I’d highly recommend Ocean Hotel Shanghai—it’s convenient, comfortable, and offers fantastic value.

The hotel itself is clean, modern, and well-maintained, with friendly staff and excellent service. Even though the price isn’t cheap, the overall experience absolutely justifies it.
