Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Leifeng Tower

Hangzhou West Lake Guominnan Hotel is highly recommended for its direct views of Leifeng Pagoda across the lake. Located on the western shore, the hotel blends classical Jiangnan garden architecture with modern luxury, offering rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the pagoda’s silhouette against the water at sunrise or sunset.

Another top choice is Four Seasons Hangzhou West Lake, situated just a 15-minute walk away. Though slightly farther, it provides exclusive access to private boat transfers to Leifeng Pagoda and features serene lakefront villas with tranquil courtyards. Both properties offer cultural immersion through guided tea ceremonies and traditional calligraphy workshops, making them ideal for travelers seeking elegance and authenticity in the heart of Hangzhou’s heritage district.

Leifeng Pagoda is perfectly positioned for seamless access to major West Lake sights. Walk along the lakeside path to reach Su Causeway in just 10 minutes, where willows line the route and swans glide past. For Broken Bridge (Duandiaoqiao), hop on a free electric shuttle bus or rent a shared e-bike—only a 15-minute ride.

The West Lake Cruising Dock is steps away, offering 20-minute boat rides to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon and Flower Harbor View Garden, perfect for capturing iconic postcard scenes. Use the Hangzhou Tourism Pass or smartphone navigation to integrate tickets and routes efficiently.

The pagoda itself has underground parking and a smart guide system, making it easy for self-drive visitors and international tourists to navigate the area smoothly while exploring the ecological and cultural essence of West Lake.

After dark, Leifeng Pagoda transforms into a breathtaking spectacle with golden lighting that highlights its Song Dynasty architectural style, mirrored beautifully on the still waters of West Lake. The nightly "Leifeng Sunset Light Show" runs from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, combining dynamic projections, music, and storytelling based on the legend of Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian—perfect for photography and emotional immersion.

Stroll along Nanshan Road afterward to enjoy authentic Hangzhou cuisine like Dongpo Pork and Longjing Shrimp, or sip fresh Longjing tea at a lakeside teahouse. The illuminated pagoda has become one of Hangzhou’s most iconic symbols, ideal for capturing dreamlike cityscapes and creating lasting memories under the stars.

Yes! Families will enjoy several engaging options: the interactive cultural exhibition hall inside Leifeng Pagoda offers VR storytelling sessions based on the White Snake Legend, turning history into an immersive adventure for children.

Nearby, West Lake Children’s Park features a small Ferris wheel, carousel, and sandbox—all safely supervised. Rent a double bicycle and ride slowly along the lakeside trail to Quyuan Fenghe and Flower Harbor View Garden, where interpretive signs teach kids about aquatic plants and birdlife.

For deeper cultural connection, book a hands-on workshop in traditional paper-cutting or silk painting led by intangible cultural heritage artisans. These activities blend fun, learning, and creativity, making them ideal for multi-generational travel and meaningful family bonding.

Absolutely. Hangzhou West Lake · Yin She is a premium boutique inn nestled at the southern foot of Leifeng Pagoda, inspired by Song Dynasty scholar gatherings. Each room features handcrafted bamboo lamps, antique porcelain, and calligraphy art, creating a serene atmosphere of classical Chinese aesthetics.

It hosts daily events like West Lake Poetry Evenings and tea ceremony workshops, allowing guests to engage deeply with local culture. Another excellent option is Xizi Lake · Yunshangju, located on a lakeside island, designed by architects who worked on Beijing Olympic venues. It uses eco-friendly materials and solar energy, earning multiple green building awards.

Both properties offer personalized cultural itineraries—such as guided tours of the pagoda’s underground vaults or ancient manuscript restoration sessions—making them perfect for discerning travelers who value design, sustainability, and authentic heritage experiences.

Absolutely—Leifeng Pagoda is a photographer’s paradise, especially during golden hour and early morning mist. Key vantage points include:

  • Front plaza: Capture the full pagoda with its reflection in the calm lake using a tripod for long exposures.

  • Su Causeway entrance: Shoot from the side, framing the pagoda with distant hills and swaying willows for layered depth.

  • Nanshan Road riverside path: Use low-angle shots to emphasize verticality and light play on red bricks and glazed tiles.

  • Lake cruise boats: Board a boat close to the structure for unique water-level perspectives, especially stunning after rain when reflections shimmer.

Bring a polarizing filter (CPL) to reduce glare, and use wide-angle and telephoto lenses to vary composition. The pagoda’s brick-red walls and gilded roof shift hues dramatically under different light conditions—ideal for documenting China’s timeless architectural beauty.

Urba Hotel(Hangzhou Sijiqing Qingchun Square Subway Station Branch)

Staying at Urba Hotel was an absolute delight! The location is perfect—just a 3-4 km ride to West Lake, making it super convenient for exploring the city. My room had a huge sofa and brand-new amenities, which made me feel right at home. Everything was spotlessly clean and well-maintained, with large windows offering a beautiful view of the outside world—great for relaxing or just enjoying the natural light. The staff, from the front desk to the housekeeping team, were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. I especially appreciated how welcoming and efficient they were throughout my stay. Plus, being near a subway station and a lively local food street added so much convenience and charm to the experience. I’ll definitely come back here on my next visit to Hangzhou—this place truly delivers value and comfort in every way.

Hangzhou West Lake Hefangjie Banland Hotel

Staying at Hangzhou West Lake Hefangjie Banland Hotel was an absolute highlight of my trip to Hangzhou. The service truly stood out—both the front desk staff and housekeeping team were incredibly attentive and thoughtful. Just before check-out, the elevator attendant kindly reminded me to double-check for any forgotten items, which was such a nice touch. There’s also complimentary goji berry and red date tea available at the front desk—warm, refreshing, and genuinely enjoyable. The room itself is perfect for someone who values comfort and smart details. I appreciated having two pillow options—one soft, one firmer—so I could pick what suited me best. The smart home system is a real plus: controlling the curtains, TV, and air conditioning from bed made everything so convenient. Even the toilet has thoughtful features, like a handy shelf on top that’s actually useful. Breakfast was another surprise—far better than the typical bland hotel breakfasts. It wasn’t just a basic buffet; the bread was freshly baked right there with a working toaster oven, and the eggs were cooked in front of me by the staff. I asked for a soft-boiled (runny) egg, and they happily obliged—no issues at all. Everything tasted fresh, well-prepared, and satisfying. For a hotel in such a central location, this place offers excellent value and genuine care. I’ll definitely be back.

Floral Hotel· Hangzhou West Lake Langya Pavilion tea hotel

I came to Hangzhou solo for a quiet getaway and couldn’t have chosen a better place. The location is perfect—super close to the West Lake and other key spots, making it easy to explore on foot or by metro. From the moment I booked, the communication was warm and thoughtful, and the staff went above and beyond throughout my stay. The hostess and front desk team felt more like friends than service providers—kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. There’s a sweet little cat in the house that’s soft as a cloud and absolutely loves attention—so much so that I ended up taking dozens of photos! Petting her was instant therapy. The room itself is spotless, beautifully decorated with a serene, artistic vibe—every detail shows care and personal touch. It’s incredibly peaceful at night, almost silent, which made for a deeply restful sleep. Honestly, this place is now firmly on my must-return list. Oh, and the coffee? Way better than I expected—great quality, affordable, and way more convenient than nearby cafes. Definitely a hidden gem with unbeatable value.

The stay was absolutely fantastic! The room was spotless, the ambiance serene, and having a small courtyard made it even more special. Located right within Maokou Scenic Area, the hotel is just steps away from West Lake—perfect for peaceful evening walks without the crowds. Getting to nearby attractions was super convenient. On our last day, we visited Lingyin Temple and couldn’t find a taxi back, so we rented bikes instead—just a 15-minute ride to the hotel, which was incredibly easy and enjoyable. The staff were genuinely warm and helpful; I forgot to ask for an invoice when checking out, but Xiao Song personally followed up and arranged it for me. That kind of attention to detail truly stood out. Overall, this place offers exceptional value and a memorable experience—definitely a top pick if you're exploring Hangzhou.

Floral Hotel· Hangzhou Alanruo Hotel (Lingyin Temple Branch)

I came to Hangzhou alone to clear my mind, and Floral Hotel·Alanruo perfectly fulfilled every dream I had for this journey. Waking up to mist drifting through the Longjing tea fields just a hundred meters away felt like stepping into a painting—peaceful, quiet, and deeply grounding. Afternoons were spent curled up with a book in the cozy retreat, letting time slip by unnoticed. But what truly elevated this stay from beautiful to unforgettable was the host, Xiao Wei. He didn’t act like a manager—he felt more like a friend. In the evenings, he’d invite guests who clicked to share tea and stories, weaving in local legends and insights about Buddhist culture with warmth and authenticity. What touched me most was how thoughtfully he tailored a quiet, spiritual route for my visit, knowing I valued serenity. There was no pressure, no sales pitch—just genuine care and respect. Thanks to him, Alanruo wasn’t just a place to sleep; it became a home away from home, a sanctuary where I truly felt seen and at peace.

Staying at Pins De La Brume Hotel in Hangzhou was an absolute delight. The moment I stepped into the courtyard, I was greeted by a peaceful serenity that instantly relaxed me. The room was immaculately clean and offered a stunning view of the distant mountain-top temple — serene and picturesque. The underfloor heating kept the room perfectly warm without being too hot, and the air purification system ran quietly, so it never disturbed my rest. Staff at the front desk and my personal concierge were incredibly attentive and thoughtful — they made sure every need was met with genuine care. During New Year’s holiday, when ride-sharing and buses were restricted near the scenic area, the hotel arranged a shuttle to drop us off right at the entrance, which was incredibly convenient. Everything was seamless and well-organized. This place isn’t just comfortable — it’s truly special. A perfect blend of tranquility, luxury, and exceptional service. I’ll definitely be returning.

Sunday Sunny Resort

This was hands down the best booking of our trip—booked early before prices went up, and the value for money was outstanding. Nestled on San Tai Mountain, the hotel offers a peaceful retreat with fresh air and stunning natural surroundings. The nearest bus stop is at Yu Qian Temple, but we actually preferred walking to Wugui Tan to try the rowboat ride—unfortunately, it was canceled due to weather, but we made up for it by taking a scenic water bus from Guo Zhuang Pier to Hua Gang Guan Yu. The views along the way were absolutely beautiful. After exploring Hua Gang Guan Yu, we returned via the Xiao Lian Qing Feng line from Su Di Pier, which dropped us right at Yu Qian Temple Station—perfect for heading back to the hotel. One small downside: limited food delivery options nearby, but overall, the experience was flawless. This place truly delivers comfort, convenience, and charm.

Breakfast is served at a restaurant in the underground food plaza, where you get vouchers to pick your own dishes. There’s a wide variety of options, and everything is delicious.
