We skipped the Penang Hill visit since it was packed with tourists in photos online and honestly felt a bit overdone. Visiting in mid-September meant it was scorching during the day, so we’d eat lunch early and head back to the hotel for a siesta before heading out again at 5 PM. The room itself had all the basics: comfortable bed and pillows, hairdryer, mini-fridge, kettle—all standard for a mid-range 3-star hotel. One small downside? The windows wouldn’t open—they were locked shut, probably to prevent guests from smoking near them (laughs). But that didn’t affect comfort too much. Cleanliness was solid, and the overall environment felt safe and well-maintained. The hotel is about 30 minutes from Penang International Airport, and getting a taxi was super easy—the drivers we encountered were mostly Chinese-speaking locals, which made communication smooth and reassuring. Taxis even dropped us right at the front door. Nearby, there’s a Chinese grocery store where you can grab snacks or essentials, and eating options nearby are plentiful and surprisingly delicious. We walked just five to ten minutes into busy areas and never had a bad meal—every bite was satisfying. Just a quick left turn from the hotel leads straight to the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a must-visit if you have time. It offers deep insights into the contributions of overseas Chinese communities during the anti-Japanese resistance movement—far more meaningful than the typical touristy heritage museum. Staff were helpful and friendly; whenever we needed anything, the front desk responded promptly. Since it’s a Chinese-owned property, everyone speaks fluent Mandarin, which made everything effortless. A RM100 deposit per room is required upon check-in, paid in cash—but totally fair for the quality and peace of mind. Overall, this place offers excellent value, great location, and genuine hospitality. Definitely recommend for travelers who appreciate authenticity and convenience.
