Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about West Brook

Shangri-La Hangzhou is highly recommended for its breathtaking views of the wetland and proximity to Xixi Paradise. Located just a 5-minute walk from the main entrance, it features private courtyard rooms with water-view terraces, offering serene glimpses of lotus ponds and ancient stone bridges. The resort also includes an indoor pool, kids’ play zone, and a traditional tea house, making it ideal for family stays.

Another top choice is Xixi Joy Hotel by Banyan Tree, which blends Jiangnan garden architecture with modern luxury. Its secluded villa-style accommodations and lakeside walking paths create a tranquil retreat perfect for those seeking peace. Both hotels offer free shuttle services to the wetland park and are accessible via barrier-free routes.

HopeGoo in advance is strongly advised—especially during holidays—to secure the best view rooms and avoid peak-season shortages.

The most efficient route from Hangzhou East Railway Station is via Metro Line 1 to "West Lake Cultural Square," then transfer to Metro Line 10 to "Xixi Paradise Station." The journey takes about 35 minutes and avoids traffic congestion.

For door-to-door convenience, use Didi or rent an e-bike along Qiu Bo Road and Tianmu Mountain Road—approximately 25 minutes and costing around ¥60. Note that large vehicles are restricted within Xixi Paradise; electric or non-motorized transport is preferred.

Special tourist shuttles also run between major hotels and the complex—check with hotel front desks for schedules. To prevent delays, especially on weekends or holidays, plan your trip during off-peak hours and allow extra time for boarding.

Xixi Paradise offers immersive intangible cultural heritage workshops, including traditional Hanging Silk Weaving (Zhan Si), Longjing Tea Ceremony, and paper-cutting art classes led by local artisans. Visitors can create personalized souvenirs while learning about Hangzhou’s rich traditions.

Every Saturday evening features "Xixi Night Talks"—a cultural dialogue series hosted by scholars and artists discussing Jiangnan aesthetics and ecological conservation, with bilingual audio interpretation available.

Don’t miss the waterway boat tour, where guests glide through ancient canals aboard vintage black-prowed boats. Along the way, enjoy stories of the "Thirty-Six Peaks" legend and centuries-old farming life, with some boats offering tea and light snacks. All activities can be booked online in advance; fees may apply for materials but include guided access and equipment.

Reservations are recommended—especially during festivals—to guarantee participation.

For authentic flavors, try Yunqi Restaurant, specializing in modernized Hangzhou cuisine. Their signature dishes like "Dragon Well Shrimp" and "Song Sister Fish Soup" use seasonal ingredients and artistic presentation, set against lush garden views.

Ban Shan Xiaoguan is another must-visit—nestled in bamboo groves, it serves farm-fresh local delicacies such as stir-fried Ma Lan Tou, clay-pot chicken, and wild mushroom soup sourced directly from Xixi’s organic farms.

For international flair, visit Xixi Coffee & Book House, a cozy independent café and bookstore offering specialty pour-over coffee and European pastries in a quiet, book-filled ambiance.

Evening night markets also open daily, selling street snacks like sugar paintings, oil buns, and osmanthus rice cakes. Reservations are advised for private dining areas—especially on weekends—and many venues provide child-friendly seating and wheelchair access.

The eco-trails at Xixi Paradise span over 8 kilometers, built entirely from elevated wooden boardwalks and natural timber bridges, seamlessly integrated into the wetland landscape without disturbing native vegetation.

Three themed sections include: Birdwatching Path (with infrared cameras and telescopes), Plant Identification Trail (featuring 40+ native wetland species like lotuses and reeds), and Historic Heritage Route (linking Qing-era stone tablets, old ferry sites, and fishing huts).

Smart QR-coded signage provides multilingual audio guides (Chinese/English) with ecological facts, historical anecdotes, and seasonal changes. Solar-powered lighting and rest shelters ensure safe nighttime access.

Visit early morning or late afternoon for optimal birdwatching—common sightings include white egrets, black-crowned night herons, and little grebes. Accessible pathways and nursing stations meet international standards, welcoming all ages and mobility needs.

Yes, Xixi Paradise welcomes pets under strict guidelines. Pets must wear leashes and carry valid vaccination records; they are prohibited in restaurants, museums, and public baths.

Dedicated pet-friendly trails and a Pet Rest Zone near Banyan Tree Xixi feature automatic water dispensers, waste bags, and cleaning stations. Monthly "Puppy Flash Events" include photo sessions, health checks, and training workshops.

Owners must pre-book a Pet Pass via the official app and bring proof of identity and vaccinations. Emergency veterinary services are available on-site for urgent cases.

Large or aggressive breeds may be restricted in certain zones—check official notices beforehand. Overall, Xixi Paradise has become one of China’s few fully pet-inclusive wetland parks with comprehensive facilities.

Sunday Sunny Resort

This was hands down the best booking of our trip—booked early before prices went up, and the value for money was outstanding. Nestled on San Tai Mountain, the hotel offers a peaceful retreat with fresh air and stunning natural surroundings. The nearest bus stop is at Yu Qian Temple, but we actually preferred walking to Wugui Tan to try the rowboat ride—unfortunately, it was canceled due to weather, but we made up for it by taking a scenic water bus from Guo Zhuang Pier to Hua Gang Guan Yu. The views along the way were absolutely beautiful. After exploring Hua Gang Guan Yu, we returned via the Xiao Lian Qing Feng line from Su Di Pier, which dropped us right at Yu Qian Temple Station—perfect for heading back to the hotel. One small downside: limited food delivery options nearby, but overall, the experience was flawless. This place truly delivers comfort, convenience, and charm.

Hangzhou Gongshu Grand Canal Light Hotel

My stay at Hangzhou Gongshu Grand Canal Light Hotel was absolutely fantastic. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel right at home—friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. The room itself was spotless and well-designed, with a spacious bathroom that made for a relaxing experience. What stood out most was the quietness; I slept like a log all night with zero noise disturbances. The pillows were just perfect—soft but supportive, and I woke up feeling completely refreshed. The breakfast buffet was another highlight: great variety with both Western and local options, and everything tasted fresh and delicious. It’s clear this hotel values guest comfort and quality. I’ll definitely be back next time I visit Hangzhou—highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-located, and thoughtfully designed place to stay.

Shusheng Xunzhen No.2 Courtyard (Lingyin Temple Branch)

Staying here for two days was absolutely perfect. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from the Cai Shen Temple cable car entrance, so no need to worry about parking near Lingyin Temple. The room was quiet, cozy, and spotlessly clean with lightweight yet warm bedding that made it feel like home. The hostess even turned on the AC before I arrived—such thoughtful touches really stood out. On day one, I followed a scenic route from Cai Shen Temple down through Chongguang Temple, Yongfu Temple, all the way to Lingyin Temple without backtracking. I managed to catch the evening chanting ceremony, counted the arhats, and felt truly blessed by the serenity of it all. Day two started with a trip to Fajixi Temple, which is a bit farther away. The host kindly drove me there and later picked me up—no hassle at all. On the return, I took a local electric shuttle or walked through the Three Zhen temples, each step filled with history and beauty: from the Kangxi inscription at Sanmo Temple to the old pavilion where Li Shutong once meditated. I stopped by Fajing Temple to pick up some traditional mooncakes—locals swear by them. Then wandered through Fajing Temple’s sacred grounds and stood by the famous Sanyi Stone, pondering what “non-dual path” truly means. Back at Lingyin Temple’s Feilai Entrance, the highlight of the journey was eating at Pumeng Vegetarian Restaurant. It required a short wait, but every bite was worth it—fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Afterward, a quick 2-minute walk brought me back to the inn, where I relaxed with a cup of Jiuxiao Hongmei tea, played with the adorable cat in the courtyard, and admired the view of the first Cai Shen Temple. Two days flew by in peace and joy—this stay wasn’t just comfortable, it was deeply meaningful. I’ll definitely be back.

Pujing Yuanju (Hangzhou Xihu Longjing)

Staying at Pujing Yuanju was an absolute delight! The room was spacious, bright, and incredibly comfortable—perfect for unwinding. What stood out most was the dedicated tea area; I spent both mornings and evenings sipping tea while chatting with friends, soaking in the sunshine. The only minor thing missing was a table inside the room, but that wasn’t an issue since the shared spaces were fantastic—multiple cozy tea lounges with all the essentials, plus an open-air courtyard ideal for relaxing, grilling, or even gathering around a fire to brew tea. It was the perfect time of year too—full of blooming osmanthus flowers, filling the air with their sweet fragrance. The weather was flawless, and the whole vibe felt serene and authentic. This place truly captures the essence of quiet luxury in Hangzhou’s countryside. Definitely worth returning.

Longjing No.3 Resort

This trip to Hangzhou was a total success, and choosing the special-rate twin room at Longjing No.3 Resort was hands down the best decision I made. Five stars without hesitation! The value for money is unreal. I was honestly worried that a discounted room might mean cramped space or outdated facilities, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The room was spacious and comfortable—two 1.2-meter beds easily fit both of us with plenty of room to spare. The mattress was just right—not too soft, not too firm—and the pillows were perfect for a good night’s sleep. After a full day of exploring, sinking into the bed felt like hitting reset on my body and mind. For this price, staying in a true resort setting with such quality service? Absolutely worth every penny. The surroundings are what truly set this place apart. Open the window, and you’re greeted by endless rows of tea fields stretching out under the morning sun. Waking up to birdsong instead of an alarm clock was pure magic. The air smelled fresh—like dewy leaves and blooming tea plants—and taking a deep breath felt like cleansing your soul. In contrast to the noise and rush of city life, this peaceful, green retreat was exactly what I needed. Cleanliness was spot-on. Everything—from the bedding to the bathroom—was immaculate. I even walked barefoot across the floor without a second thought. The room had all the essentials: AC, TV, kettle, and most impressively, the shower delivered hot water instantly and in strong pressure. That post-adventure hot shower? Pure bliss. Location-wise, it’s incredibly convenient. Just a short walk to the charming Longwu Tea Village—perfect for photos. And places like Guangming Temple Reservoir and Songcheng are within easy reach, whether by foot or quick transit. In short, if you're looking for a budget-friendly stay with real nature vibes, easy access to attractions, and top-tier comfort, this room is a no-brainer. My experience was flawless, and I’ve already recommended it to friends. If I come back to Hangzhou, this will be my first choice again.

Located just steps from Xueyuan Road Metro Station, the hotel offers unbeatable convenience for exploring the city. The room was spotless, well-organized, and surprisingly cozy despite its compact size. The bed was comfortable, and I slept like a baby. What truly stood out was the staff—warm, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. Breakfast was a highlight: a generous spread of both Western and local favorites, including fresh pastries, eggs, porridge, and dim sum. It felt like a daily treat. Plus, having access to a laundry room on-site was such a game-changer—perfect for longer stays or travel with multiple outfits. Everything about this place felt thoughtfully designed for comfort and practicality. If you're looking for a clean, friendly, and value-packed stay in Hangzhou, this is the one. I recently stayed at HNBC Hotel & SPA (Hangzhou Xueyuan Road) and booked the single Jade Foot Therapy session for 3 hours—definitely one of the most relaxing spa experiences I’ve had. It’s clear that attention to detail goes beyond just comfort—it’s about creating a truly restful retreat. I’m already looking forward to coming back next year.

Pins De La Brume Hotel

Staying at Pins De La Brume Hotel in Hangzhou was an absolute delight. The moment I stepped into the courtyard, I was greeted by a peaceful serenity that instantly relaxed me. The room was immaculately clean and offered a stunning view of the distant mountain-top temple — serene and picturesque. The underfloor heating kept the room perfectly warm without being too hot, and the air purification system ran quietly, so it never disturbed my rest. Staff at the front desk and my personal concierge were incredibly attentive and thoughtful — they made sure every need was met with genuine care. During New Year’s holiday, when ride-sharing and buses were restricted near the scenic area, the hotel arranged a shuttle to drop us off right at the entrance, which was incredibly convenient. Everything was seamless and well-organized. This place isn’t just comfortable — it’s truly special. A perfect blend of tranquility, luxury, and exceptional service. I’ll definitely be returning.

We Garden Hotel

We stayed here the night before a hiking trip to Taiziwan Park with our kids, and it was an absolutely perfect choice. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere—clean, quiet, and thoughtfully designed. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home, offering helpful tips about nearby trails and even checking in on the children’s comfort throughout the stay. What truly made it special? Our son, who rarely comments on hotels, came up to me after breakfast and said, 'Mom, this place is awesome—can we come back?' That alone says it all. It's so close to the park, just a short walk or quick metro ride away, making our morning hike super convenient. The room was spacious, well-lit, and had everything we needed. For families looking for a peaceful, authentic stay near nature, this is definitely a top pick. We’ll be returning!
