For faster transit, walk to Higashi-Omiya Station and transfer to the Tozai Subway Line, reaching Fushimi Inari Shrine or Kyoto Station within 30 minutes. Alternatively, shared e-bikes (e.g., SOMPO Mobility) are available near campus, offering eco-friendly, flexible options for short-distance exploration.

Near Yoshida Campus, visitors can explore traditional calligraphy studios and washi paper workshops, such as Kyowashi Craft Studio, where hands-on sessions reveal the artistry behind Japanese paper-making. The adjacent Yoshida Shrine hosts the annual Bunbu Festival in spring, showcasing students' prayers for academic success. At night, guided nighttime shrine visits offer a serene glimpse into Kyoto’s scholarly heritage and spiritual traditions.

Kyoto Youth Hostel - Yoshida Branch is ideal, just a 5-minute walk from campus with affordable dormitory and private rooms. It features shared kitchens, communal lounges, and a vibrant international student atmosphere. Nearby 24-hour convenience stores and local eateries ensure daily needs are met. Some rooms include tatami flooring and shoji sliding doors, offering an authentic Japanese living experience.

Nearby are several century-old eateries, such as Yoshida Dining, famous for its rich Kyoto-style soy sauce ramen with tender chashu. Another must-try is Kamo River House, specializing in duck dishes, particularly the refreshing Kamo Nanban cold dish with tangy-sweet flavors. A 10-minute walk leads to Yasaka Street, where street vendors offer treats like matcha mochi and toro-ka—perfect for sampling Kyoto’s blend of tradition and innovation.

Absolutely. Start with a morning visit to Yoshida Shrine for a peaceful ritual reflecting the academic spirit. Head to Gion for lunch featuring kaiseki cuisine and watch geiko strolling along the streets. In the afternoon, explore Tōfuku-ji Temple’s dry landscape garden or stroll along the Philosopher’s Path, lined with cherry or maple trees depending on season. All sites are accessible by foot or short bus rides, creating a seamless journey through nature, history, and art—perfect for experiencing Kyoto’s intellectual and cultural essence.

Along the Kamo River path, winding beside the campus, you’ll find lush cherry blossoms in spring and dappled sunlight in summer—natural backdrops for candid moments. The Westin Miyako Kyoto

The Westin Miyako Kyoto truly lives up to its reputation—excellent quality and service throughout. Located in eastern Kyoto, it’s just a short walk from Exit 2 of the Keihan Subway's Katsuyama Station, making access super convenient. One of the highlights is the on-site hot spring bath—definitely worth trying if you’re looking to unwind. My initial room was near the street and a bit noisy, but after speaking with the front desk, they quickly arranged a room change. Special thanks to Mr. Yamane and another staff member who looked like a young Hikaru Nakamura (I mean, a little like Hikaru Nakamura—just kidding!)—they were incredibly helpful and polite. The hotel also offers a direct shuttle to Kyoto Station, departing at 8:00 AM on weekends and holidays, and 9:00 AM on weekdays, with departures every hour at :10 and :40—only 25 minutes to the station, perfect for travelers. Daily housekeeping kept the room spotless, just as clean as when I first arrived, and they even included calming essential oils each day. Breakfast was outstanding—especially the homemade onigiri corner, where a cheerful lady made some of the most delicious rice balls I’ve ever had. It’s definitely worth waking up early for. Overall, this hotel delivers comfort, convenience, and genuine hospitality—highly recommended!

The onsen was perfectly relaxing, and the breakfast at the restaurant, along with the complimentary snacks at the executive lounge, were both delicious and well-presented. One of my favorite moments was waking up early to hike the small hill behind the property—fresh air, birdsong, and a quiet morning vibe that instantly lifted my mood. Aman Kyoto

Staying at Aman Kyoto felt like stepping into a peaceful retreat hidden within the heart of Kyoto. The property is quiet and secluded, with its own little forest that makes evening strolls after dinner incredibly relaxing. Even though it was late in the maple season, the autumn ambiance still lingered beautifully—just a bit sparse on the red foliage from the room windows. Service was exceptional—each night brought a different sweet treat delivered to our room, a lovely personal touch. Afternoon tea was elegantly presented and deliciously crafted. The snow crab kaiseki dinner stood out as truly memorable, with exquisite flavors and thoughtful presentation. We stayed for three nights, and every moment felt luxurious and restorative. Marufukuro

As a Nintendo fan, this hidden gem in Kyoto is a must-visit! Tucked away in a quiet alley, it’s a 15-minute walk from the JR station—perfect for a leisurely stroll through local streets. What stood out was the evening snack service with warm rice balls and small treats, plus access to both the lounge and library, ideal for unwinding or reading. The breakfast was decent but nothing special. However, the staff truly made the difference—one team member spoke fluent Chinese and offered incredibly warm, attentive service that made me feel right at home. And of course, you can’t miss the historic Marufukuro building itself; its centuries-old charm adds so much character to the stay. It’s not just a hotel—it’s an experience. Soraniwa Terrace Kyoto Bettei

Absolutely stunning! The Soraniwa Terrace Kyoto Bettei is perfectly located right across from Takashimaya, offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of Kyoto. After a long day of shopping or sightseeing, it only takes 3 minutes to return and unwind. Upon check-in, guests receive a welcome drink, and between 4 PM and 6:30 PM, you can enjoy a complimentary cocktail at the rooftop bar—just show your voucher. I loved lounging barefoot on the terrace, soaking in the views of the Kamo River. On the 9th floor, there’s a semi-outdoor hot spring bath with enough space to stretch out and swim a few laps—pure relaxation. The hotel blends Western-style design with traditional Japanese elements, and the attention to detail is impressive. Our room came with a private onsen and a fantastic city view, though we were on the third floor where the scenery was just okay. If you’re looking for better views, go for a higher-floor room—it’s totally worth it. For around ¥2,000, this is an incredible value; even at ¥3,000, it still feels like a steal. A must-stay if you want comfort, charm, and that perfect balance of modernity and tradition.
