This trip, I stayed at ANA Crowne Plaza hotels in Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe—without a doubt, the most relaxing was the one in Kyoto. While it’s not located right in the bustling heart of the city, that quiet, peaceful atmosphere is exactly what made it special. The hotel features a serene water feature, and from my room, I could enjoy views of Nijo Castle across the street—such a tranquil setting. Kyoto itself has a calming charm; the streets feel welcoming, unhurried, and full of character. It’s not just about the location—it’s the overall vibe. The staff were attentive, the room was comfortable, and the balance between comfort and calm made this stay truly memorable. Definitely my top pick among the three.
The stay at The Root2 Hotel was fantastic overall! The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and their friendliness really made the experience special. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from major attractions and surrounded by great local eateries. Public transportation access is super convenient, which is a big plus for travelers like us. The only minor downside was the couch in the room, which had a few stains—nothing major, but something worth noting. Still, it didn’t take away from the excellent service or the comfortable, modern rooms. I’d definitely stay here again and recommend it to fellow travelers looking for a peaceful, well-located base in Kyoto.
The staff at Kyoto City Gardens Hotel were absolutely exceptional—so friendly and proactive. They even allowed me to check in early on the same day, which was a huge plus. The hotel is just a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the city. I loved how quiet and peaceful the place felt while still being close to everything. The location, service, and overall vibe made this stay unforgettable. Definitely my top pick for future visits to Kyoto.
Our stay at Kohaku an Machiya House was absolutely delightful. The location couldn’t have been better—bus stops are right outside the door, and the train station is just a short walk away, making it super convenient for exploring Kyoto. There’s also a pharmacy and convenience store within a 1-2 minute stroll, which was incredibly handy. My sister and I truly fell in love with the place from the moment we arrived. When she came down with a mild cold, the staff went out of their way to help—so kind and thoughtful. The house itself has a beautiful traditional machiya charm, with a peaceful, authentic atmosphere that made us feel right at home. It’s rare to find such a perfect blend of comfort, culture, and hospitality. We can’t recommend this gem enough.
Absolutely unforgettable! We chose Gion Ryokan Karaku on purpose to experience authentic Japanese hospitality, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The tatami room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and the bedding was incredibly comfortable—sleeping on the floor felt cozy and warm, even in winter thanks to excellent heating. The bathroom and shower are separated, both immaculate and featuring a unique traditional Japanese design. Hot water flows generously, though it took a few tries to figure out how to adjust the showerhead at first. Location-wise, it's perfect: just a 3-minute walk to Yasaka Shrine, less than 20 minutes to the heart of Teramachi Street, and around 20 minutes to Kiyomizu-dera—plus, the route is packed with charming cafes, shops, and scenic spots. You’ll end up wandering longer than planned because there’s so much to enjoy along the way. Kyoto is magical, and every day felt like an adventure. Returning to the ryokan after a full day of exploring was pure bliss. Thank you, Gion Ryokan Karaku, for such a wonderful stay—we can’t wait to come back!
Staying at Connect Inn Kyoto Station South was a great experience overall. The hotel is brand new, clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable—perfect for a good night’s sleep. Being right next to Kyoto Station makes getting around the city super convenient, especially if you're relying on public transit. However, there are a few things worth noting: if you need to store your luggage before check-in or after check-out, you have to walk about 12 minutes to a nearby café, which isn’t ideal. Also, the fourth floor doesn’t have a restroom, and while there are two bathrooms, one is very cramped with almost no space to hang clothes or towels. The staircase is quite steep, so it’s not very suitable for children or elderly guests, and hauling heavy suitcases up can be tough. Despite these small drawbacks, the room amenities are well-maintained, the atmosphere is pleasant, and I’d definitely consider staying here again. With a few improvements—especially in accessibility and luggage storage—the experience could be even better.
Staying at Tazuru Hotel was an absolute delight from start to finish. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, always ready to help with any request—whether it was a simple question or something more urgent, they responded promptly and with genuine care. The hotel itself is immaculately clean, with a peaceful, well-maintained atmosphere that made every moment feel relaxing. My room had a direct view of the Kamo River, and the scenery changed beautifully throughout the day. Mornings were serene with soft sunlight reflecting on the water, while evenings brought a gentle glow from the city lights dancing across the surface—truly unforgettable. It’s also perfectly located for exploring Kyoto; I could reach major attractions by public transit in just minutes. With such great service, cleanliness, and location, this place offers amazing value. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.
Staying at Park Hyatt Kyoto was an absolute highlight—serene yet perfectly positioned in the heart of Kyoto. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was calm and elegant, a true oasis amidst the city. The room was cozy and thoughtfully designed, with luxurious bedding that made it hard to leave. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive, and I was so grateful for the multilingual team member who spoke fluent Chinese—she made check-in smooth and stress-free. Every detail felt just right: not too flashy, but full of quiet sophistication. Honestly, this place felt more comfortable than some other high-end hotels I’ve stayed at, and I already can’t wait to return. And the food? Don’t miss the on-site Western restaurant—while the Japanese dining experience is Michelin-worthy, their lobster pasta was a revelation. Rich, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. It’s one of those meals you’ll remember long after you’ve left.
Check-in right in the room was such a convenient and unique touch—no waiting in line, just straight into relaxation. The staff were incredibly professional and warm, always ready to help with a smile. Every part of the public space felt thoughtfully designed: spacious, serene, and beautifully balanced between luxury and comfort. From the soft lighting to the elegant furnishings, it’s clear attention to detail goes beyond expectations. It’s not just a hotel—it feels like a peaceful retreat in the heart of Kyoto. A truly memorable stay, and absolutely worth every moment.
Every single aspect of this stay was exceptional! From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome and attention to detail set the tone for an unforgettable experience. The location is perfect—just a short walk from Kyoto’s main attractions and conveniently close to public transit. Our room was spacious, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable, with a plush bed that made for a restful night’s sleep. The staff went above and beyond—friendly, professional, and always ready to help with recommendations or arrangements. Breakfast was a highlight: fresh, diverse, and delicious, blending local flavors with international touches. What truly stood out was how luxurious yet affordable it felt—no need to break the bank for such a high-end stay. This isn’t just a hotel; it’s a destination in itself. I’ll definitely be back.
Staying at Six Senses Kyoto was an absolute highlight of my trip to Japan. From the moment I walked in, the warm and thoughtful Japanese hospitality stood out—staff were polite, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. The hotel itself feels fresh and modern, with a strong emphasis on sustainability woven into every detail, from the food and drinks to the design. I couldn’t book the spa (it’s famously popular), but the on-site hot spring was a wonderful alternative—perfect for unwinding after a long day. The omakase restaurant downstairs was an unforgettable experience; watching the chef craft each piece of sushi with such precision and care felt like art in motion. Even though I had the place mostly to myself during dinner and drinks at the bar, service remained impeccable and personal. Breakfast was a half-self-service spread—I enjoyed the Western-style options, though the omelette could’ve been fluffier. The Japanese rice was excellent, and while other dishes were just average, the welcome fruits and little pastries added a sweet touch, even if they didn’t quite hit the mark flavor-wise. A small disappointment: no welcome champagne, but that’s just a minor note in what was otherwise a flawless stay. If you’re looking for a serene, eco-conscious retreat with exceptional service and culinary charm, this is it.
Staying at Hotel the Mitsui Kyoto was an absolute delight. From the moment I walked in, the service was exceptional—warm, attentive, and seamless. The room was incredibly comfortable, with a plush bed that made it easy to unwind after a busy week in Shanghai. I’m already looking forward to returning in autumn when the maple trees turn vibrant red. The location is perfect for exploring Kyoto, with easy access to public transit. What truly stood out was how quickly and efficiently the platform and hotel responded to my inquiries—every question was answered within half an hour, making the entire experience stress-free. It’s reassuring to know you can rely on such prompt support while traveling abroad. This stay exceeded all expectations, and I’d definitely book again without hesitation.
