Everything you need to know about Dapiyuan Mosque

Recommended stays include Westin Xi'an, just 1.5 km from Dapianyuan Mosque, offering modern amenities and a peaceful atmosphere. Its elegant rooms provide easy access to the mosque and nearby Hui ethnic culture.

Another excellent option is Xi'an Clock Tower Hotel, located in the city center, within a 15-minute walk of the mosque. It features free parking, 24-hour front desk, and guided tour services to help visitors explore the mosque and surrounding Huimin District. The hotel also offers authentic Northwest Chinese cuisine, including lamb soup and mutton hot pot, enhancing cultural immersion.

The easiest route is taking Line 3 of the Xi'an Metro to "Clock Tower Station", exiting through B exit, then walking about 10 minutes to Dapianyuan Mosque. This avoids traffic congestion and provides clear signage at the station.

Alternatively, bus lines 501 or 609 stop at "Ximen Station," just an 8-minute walk away. For flexibility, shared bicycles and DiDi rideshare are ideal, especially if you plan to visit nearby attractions like Muslim Street and the Bell Tower. Travel time is typically 10–15 minutes, making it efficient for both families and solo travelers.

Visitors can join local community-led handmade noodle workshops in the Huimin District, learning to prepare traditional dishes like youpo cheli mian (spicy oil noodles) and liangpi (cold skin noodles), followed by tasting their own creations.

During festivals such as Eid al-Fitr, the mosque hosts open prayer ceremonies welcoming non-Muslim guests to observe Islamic rituals. Live performances featuring Arabic recitations and ethnic costume displays offer deeper insight into Hui culture.

It’s recommended to check schedules in advance, as some events require reservations. Information is available through local tourism centers or hotel concierges—these immersive experiences are both educational and memorable.

The Hui Min Food Street features century-old stalls offering authentic flavors. Try Laodong Chao Meitang—a signature sour plum drink made with hawthorn and umeboshi, perfect for cooling down in summer.

Visit Ma Sanyuan Dumpling Shop for beef-filled steamed buns with juicy broth—thin skins burst with flavor. Also sample Li Family Pao Mo, where bread chunks are soaked in rich lamb soup with fresh coriander and chili oil for layered taste.

Don’t miss Baijia Yang Xue Tang, known for tender lamb blood and a secret-spiced broth—ideal for winter warmth. All dishes are halal-certified, safe, and highly recommended for food lovers seeking genuine Xi'an Hui cuisine.

For an authentic experience near Dapian Temple Mosque, stay at Xi'an Hui Ethnic Street Boutique Hotel, a charming guesthouse blending traditional Hui architectural details with modern comfort. Located just a 3-minute walk from the mosque, it features rooms adorned with Arabic geometric patterns and Chinese woodcarvings, creating a unique cultural ambiance. The hotel serves a local breakfast menu including lamb bubble bread and beef and mutton soup, offering a true taste of Muslim cuisine. Transportation around Dapian Temple Mosque is highly convenient. Take Line 2 of the Xi'an Metro to either "Beidajie Station" or "Bell Tower Station," then walk about 10 minutes. Numerous bus lines, including No. 5, 7, 26, and 407, stop nearby at "Xidajie" or "Hui Min Street." Use Gaode Maps or Baidu Maps for navigation—alleyways are narrow and some areas restrict motor vehicles. For deeper exploration, consider renting an electric scooter or joining a local guide’s walking + bike tour, allowing you to fully immerse in the lively street culture and religious atmosphere surrounding the mosque.

Near Dapian Temple Mosque, visitors can join daily morning prayer tours (by prior reservation) to witness devout Muslim worship rituals. There are also traditional Islamic calligraphy workshops on parchment, led by master artisans, teaching ancient Islamic art techniques. At night, enjoy a Muslim Quarter food tour, sampling local delights like sour plum juice, cold skin noodles, and zengao rice cake, while watching live performances of Qin Opera and paper-cutting. Some guesthouses offer family-style dinner experiences, where guests dine with local Muslim families, learning table manners and dietary customs, fostering deep cross-cultural understanding.

Yes, many boutique guesthouses and family-friendly hotels near Dapian Temple Mosque cater well to families. For example, Xi'an Hui Street Family Apartment offers interconnecting rooms and child-friendly amenities such as cribs, non-slip flooring, and accessible bathrooms. The location is ideal—near the Children's Museum and Hui Min Street Performance Square, where kids can participate in intangible cultural heritage activities like paper cutting, dough figurines, and shadow puppetry. Restaurants provide kid-friendly menus with low-salt and spice-free options, ensuring comfort for both elders and children. The area is safe with clear signage and surveillance systems, allowing parents to confidently explore with young ones.

Yes! The Dapian Temple Mosque itself is a prime photography spot, featuring striking blue-and-white domes and intricate Arabic floral windows that glow beautifully under sunlight. Visit during golden hour to capture the warm light bathing the minaret. The surrounding alleyways of the Muslim Quarter are equally photogenic—vibrant food stall awnings, hanging strings of red chili peppers, and ornate old gates create a lively urban tapestry. Many hidden shops offer Hui ethnic costume rentals, letting visitors don traditional headscarves or jia pan robes for memorable photos in front of the mosque. Some guesthouses even feature courtyard photo corners with lanterns and stone carvings, perfect for dreamy vintage-style shots.

The Maison New Century Hotel (The Ancient City Wall )

Our stay at The Maison New Century Hotel (The Ancient City Wall) in Xi'an exceeded all expectations! From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff went above and beyond by upgrading us to a higher-category room at no extra cost—such a thoughtful touch. What truly touched us was that it happened to be my daughter's birthday; the hotel had secretly prepared fresh fruit, a small gift, and a heartfelt handwritten card. Her face lit up with pure joy—this level of personal care made the trip unforgettable. The room itself was a highlight: smart features like motorized curtains and motion-sensor lighting created a seamless, comfortable experience. Every member of the staff—from concierge to housekeeping—was attentive, proactive, and respectful without being intrusive. It’s rare to find such genuinely warm, intuitive service. Location-wise, it couldn’t be better. The hotel is literally steps from the metro entrance, making it easy to reach major attractions like the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and Bell Tower within minutes. Whether you're here for sightseeing or just looking for a peaceful retreat, this place delivers on every level. This wasn’t just a comfortable stay—it became a cherished memory for our family. We’ll definitely be back next time we visit Xi'an.

Novotel Xi an The Bell Tower Hotel

Staying at Novotel Xi'an The Bell Tower Hotel was an absolute delight. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from Exit H of Bell Tower Metro Station, and it's only one stop to Guangji Station for easy access to the bustling Muslim Quarter. Step outside and you're face-to-face with the iconic Bell Tower—perfect for photos and soaking in the historic vibe. The staff, from security to front desk and laundry team, were all friendly, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. Breakfast was fantastic—daily rotating menu with fresh, diverse options that kept us excited every morning. My parents especially loved the afternoon tea service; after a long day of exploring, returning to a cozy corner with a warm drink and light bites was pure bliss. This hotel delivers on comfort, convenience, and charm. I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting Xi’an—and I’ll definitely be back.

Platinum wan'ao Victory Hotel

Our 8-day self-drive trip across Shaanxi ended with a stay at Platinum Wan'ao Victory Hotel in Xi'an, and overall, it was an excellent choice. The location is incredibly convenient—right across from Hepingmen Metro Station, just a 50-meter walk away, making public transit access seamless for exploring the city. The hotel faces the ancient city wall directly, and it’s only about a 1.7-kilometer stroll to Yongning Gate if you want to walk along the wall—a pleasant way to enjoy the historic surroundings. Upon check-in, the front desk proactively upgraded us to a larger room, which made a big difference: spacious enough to comfortably unpack and move around, and ideal for family travel. Cleanliness was spot-on, meeting standard expectations without any issues. One minor drawback is the parking situation—being a multi-level garage, it’s not the most user-friendly, especially for larger vehicles, though my compact car navigated it easily. Breakfast was decent but not particularly impressive by luxury hotel standards—nothing overly elaborate, and we didn’t receive a third breakfast for our parents, which was slightly disappointing since this was one of only two hotels on the entire trip that didn’t offer it. Still, considering the excellent location, helpful staff, room comfort, and overall value, it’s hard not to give high praise. For travelers prioritizing convenience and a solid base in central Xi’an, this hotel is a strong recommendation.

Gran Melia Xi'an

Staying at Gran Melia Xi'an was an absolute delight from start to finish. The hotel's design is elegant without being overly flashy—very refined and modern. Our Huanxiang Suite, measuring 103 square meters, felt spacious and airy, making it incredibly comfortable for our family stay. The bedding was plush and fresh with no strange odors, and the housekeeping staff were consistently attentive—daily cleaning, plus a second tidy-up in the evening, which made a big difference. The staff on the executive floor were especially memorable: warm, patient, and genuinely thoughtful. They greeted my child by name each time and even brought over two small packs of chips just because he liked them—such a sweet, personal touch. The executive lounge snacks were also excellent—on our first night, when we were rushing to get ready, I stopped by for a quick bite. There was a good variety of options, and everything felt fresh and well-curated. Location-wise, this hotel is unbeatable—just across from the Tang Paradise Garden, a short walk to the lively Tang Dynasty Night Market, and close to Qujiang Book City. Everything is pedestrian-friendly, which is perfect for exploring the area at your own pace. The concierge at the lobby was outstanding—professional, efficient, and clearly experienced. A few words were enough for him to understand exactly what I needed, living up to the Gold Key reputation. Overall, while it might not be the flashiest hotel in town, the service quality ranks among the top I've experienced. It’s calm, respectful, and deeply considerate—everyone knows their role and executes it flawlessly. That level of consistency is rare. One small suggestion: please extend breakfast service a bit longer. We arrived around 10:30, and the serving station had already been cleared—plates and tongs were gone—even though food was still available. It left latecomers stranded without tools to serve themselves. A minor fix, but would make a big difference. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!

Despite being in the heart of the city, the place is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Cleanliness is top-notch, and the breakfast buffet offers a fantastic variety of both Western and Chinese dishes—all fresh and delicious. The staff are warm, attentive, and always ready to help. Crowne Plaza Xi'an

The stay exceeded all expectations—every aspect was outstanding, and I’ll definitely choose Crowne Plaza again on my next visit to Xi'an. Due to a delayed high-speed train schedule, we arrived at Xi'an North Station right at the stroke of midnight, facing heavy crowds and long waits for taxis—truly tiring after the journey. But as soon as we stepped through the hotel’s revolving doors, everything changed. The subtle ambient scent in the lobby instantly refreshed me, even after feeling slightly queasy from the trip. The doorman’s warm welcome and the front desk staff’s attentive service made us feel instantly at home. The room was spacious with excellent heating, and both the living and bedroom TVs supported screen mirroring. The capsule coffee was rich and delicious, perfect for a relaxing evening. After soaking in the bathtub while watching TV, I headed up to the 5th floor gym—clean facilities, a well-maintained pool, and even a massage tub in the changing area. The hotel is walking distance to Yonghui Supermarket and Kaidi Plaza, making shopping incredibly convenient. Best of all? Food delivery arrives via robot—so futuristic and efficient! From comfort to convenience, this place delivers on every level. Highly recommend for travelers seeking quality, warmth, and modern touches.
