Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Huchenghe

Beijing Hotel is a top choice, located directly along the Beijing City Moat, offering panoramic views of the Tiananmen Square and the surrounding green belt. Its prime location allows guests to walk to the Forbidden City in just 5 minutes, making it ideal for history enthusiasts. The hotel’s elegant design blends traditional Chinese elements with modern luxury.

For those preferring contemporary amenities, Marriott Wangfujing is a great alternative, just a short metro ride away. Located near the bustling Wangfujing shopping district, it offers easy access to the moat area via public transit. The rooftop bar provides stunning night views of the city skyline, especially during seasonal light displays along the moat.

Walking from the Beijing City Moat to Tiananmen Square takes about 10 minutes along the Jinshui River and Dong Chang'an Street. This scenic route passes by ancient pillars, stone lions, and red walls, offering an authentic glimpse into Beijing’s imperial architecture. It’s ideal for early morning walks to avoid crowds, and visitors can stop at the Monument to the People's Heroes for photos. The path is flat and accessible, perfect for families and elderly travelers.

The area around the Beijing City Moat offers several unique cultural activities: morning Tai Chi sessions held on the riverside lawn by local practitioners, allowing visitors to experience traditional Chinese wellness; calligraphy workshops hosted in nearby teahouses with master instructors, offering hands-on practice with brush and ink; and weekly Peking Opera mini-performances every Saturday evening, featuring concise yet vibrant excerpts of classic operas. These immersive experiences provide deep insight into Beijing’s living heritage and daily rhythms.

Beijing Hotel is a top choice, located just a 5-minute walk from the south bank of the City Wall Moat, offering serene views of the green riverside promenade and Jingshan Park. Its blend of classical Chinese architecture and modern amenities ensures comfort and cultural immersion. Alternatively, Hyatt Regency Wangfujing provides excellent connectivity—just 1.2 km away—with complimentary shuttle service to key sites like the Clock and Bell Towers and Imperial Palace Remains. Both properties are near Line 5 Metro, making them ideal for exploring Beijing’s historic Central Axis.

The waterfront walking paths along the City Wall Moat are perfect for family strolls or cycling, with scenic views of Ming Dynasty rampart ruins and willow-lined banks. Join a guided evening heritage tour by boat—a 1-hour cruise showcasing the illuminated Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City exterior—complete with multilingual commentary. On Saturdays, enjoy the City Wall Art Market, featuring traditional crafts like Peking opera masks, sugar paintings, and handmade souvenirs, offering children an engaging cultural experience.

Walk about 10 minutes north from the southern bank of the City Wall Moat to reach the entrance of Tiananmen Square, passing landmarks like the Monument to the People's Heroes and the National Museum. To reach the Forbidden City, continue north along Dong Chang'an Street (15-minute walk) or take Subway Line 8 to Tiananmen East Station—just 3 stops away. Use Beijing Transit Card or mobile payment for seamless travel. Many tour operators also offer private transfers from the moat to the Forbidden City at ¥80 per person, ideal for those preferring convenience.

Visit Siji Minfu by the moat—a century-old restaurant famous for its authentic Peking duck, served tableside with crispy skin and tender meat. Another option is Lao She Teahouse branch, located right on the riverbank, offering classic dishes like Zhajiangmian, Douzhi, and Aiwoowo, paired with live Peking Opera and crosstalk performances. Both venues accept reservations; book at least one to two days ahead, especially during holidays. After dinner, stroll along the river to enjoy the romantic interplay of imperial architecture lights and ancient beam shadows under the night sky.

The City Wall Moat was a crucial defensive feature of Beijing’s Ming and Qing imperial city, originally constructed during the Yuan Dynasty and expanded under the Yongle Emperor to form a square water system around the Forbidden City. With a width of 15 meters and depth of 4 meters, it served military defense, drainage, and transportation—carrying grain and building materials to the palace complex. Today, it has evolved into a vital urban green corridor, preserving Ming Dynasty stone walls and ancient bridge remnants. In spring, cherry blossoms line the banks, creating the famed "Golden Water River Spring View," symbolizing Beijing’s enduring blend of history and nature.

Absolutely! The area offers rich historical backdrops, including the Wanchun Pavilion in Jingshan Park, the Bai Ta reflection in Beihai Park, and the ruins of the Imperial City Wall at the Root of the Imperial City Park—perfect for cultural photography. Capture dreamy mirror reflections at dawn when mist hovers over the water, or dramatic golden hour contrasts between sunset and red walls with golden roofs. For a striking composition, shoot silhouettes of ancient bridges framed by willows at noon, especially with visitors in Hanfu attire. Most spots are free and open-access, making it a photographer’s paradise.

Blossom House·HouHai Beijing

Staying at Blossom House·Hou Hai Beijing in Yangfang Hutong was such a delightful experience. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from Houhai Lake and the Drum Tower, making it perfect for exploring Beijing’s historic heart. The hotel’s interior design stands out with its creative use of irregular shapes, which might not be everyone’s taste, but I appreciated the unique character. What truly impressed me was the comfort of the bed—excellent mattress and high-quality linens made for a restful night’s sleep. Breakfast offered both set menus and à la carte options, so there was something for everyone, and nothing went to waste. The staff—Liu Linlin, Xiao Xi, and Xiao Zheng—were incredibly warm and attentive. They helped with luggage, offered free yogurt and fresh fruit, and always had a smile. It felt less like staying in a hotel and more like being welcomed into a home. This place has a special charm, and I’ll definitely return.

The rooms are compact but spotless and cozy—perfect for a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. I loved how easy it was to explore the historic area on foot. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive—always smiling, helpful, and genuinely eager to make our stay memorable. Beijing Jingyun Shiqizhu Courtyard Hotel

The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect if you're planning to catch the Tiananmen Square flag ceremony with kids. It's literally the closest to Gate 7 security checkpoint, making access super convenient. The room itself was decent—nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. What really stood out was how many great dining options are right around the corner, from local street food to authentic Beijing cuisine. We had everything we needed just a short walk away. The PuXuan Hotel and Spa

Staying at The PuXuan Hotel and Spa in Beijing was a delightful experience overall. The room size was just right—not too cramped, not overly spacious—and being just steps from the metro made getting around the city incredibly convenient. The twin beds were slightly smaller than expected, but the mattress was so comfortable that I slept like a baby. Breakfast was a highlight, especially the eggs—perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and soft center. However, the wonton soup could use more depth in flavor. Adding some rice noodles or vermicelli dishes, maybe even a spicy beef noodle option, would be a great addition to the menu. Despite minor room for improvement, the hospitality, location, and value for money made this stay truly memorable. I’d definitely come back here on my next trip to Beijing!

I was thrilled to book a Comfort Room again—so happy! While the hotel isn’t brand new and some facilities show their age, everything is well-maintained and functional. Cleanliness stands out—every corner is spotless, which made me feel completely at ease. Location-wise, it’s unbeatable: right in the heart of Xidan, with shopping, dining, and subway access just steps away. During the holiday season, the hotel was beautifully decorated with festive vibes—warm, cheerful, and full of spirit. The staff were incredibly welcoming and even accommodated my late checkout without any hassle. This is hands down my go-to choice for business trips. Convenient, reliable, and consistently great service. I’ll definitely be back.

Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing Hotel - Marriott International

Staying at the Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing Hotel was an absolute highlight of our trip. Located right in the heart of Beijing, it’s incredibly convenient—just a short walk to Wangfujing shopping street and major attractions like the Forbidden City and Jingshan Park. The room was spacious, well-maintained, and featured all the amenities we needed. The view of the Forbidden City and Jingshan Mountain was simply unforgettable. We especially loved the New Year’s Eve atmosphere in the lobby—warm, festive, and beautifully decorated. The Executive Lounge perks were top-notch: great happy hour dinner, delicious breakfast, and a cozy space to unwind. The staff were professional, friendly, and attentive throughout—special thanks to Cecilia at check-in and Peter at checkout for their exceptional service. We’ve made this hotel our go-to spot for annual New Year gatherings with friends, and it never disappoints. One small suggestion: the bathroom toilet on the executive floor isn’t smart, so no heated seat or bidet function—this could be improved, especially during colder months. Also, only two bottles of water provided in the room are a bit minimal; while you can request more or grab some from the lounge, having them delivered directly would be more convenient. Still, these minor points don’t take away from the overall excellent experience. This place truly delivers luxury, comfort, and hospitality—highly recommended!

Staying at Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing Beijing was an absolutely unforgettable experience—far beyond what I expected. Nestled in the heart of old Beijing, the hotel offers a perfect blend of tradition and luxury with excellent access to public transit. From the moment we walked in, every detail screamed quality: impeccable cleanliness, elegant design, and service that felt genuinely personal. My birthday was celebrated with a beautifully decorated room, a sparkling champagne toast, and a delicious cake—my kids were thrilled to find a whole basket of candies waiting for them! The non-alcoholic beverages were surprisingly sophisticated, many I’d never tasted before. The bathroom was a dream—huge soaking tub with powerful water pressure, and the air conditioning maintained perfect, consistent temperature without any drafts or sudden shifts. It’s clear the building systems are top-notch. Even the little extras like a yoga mat in the room showed how thoughtfully designed everything is. This wasn’t just a stay—it was a true luxury retreat. If you’re ever in Beijing, this is one experience you simply must book. Worth every penny.
