Staying in a university dorm as a tourist was such a unique experience—really brought back memories of my own student days. The check-in staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, guiding us through all the amenities like self-service laundry, breakfast options, convenience shop, bar, and lounges. The room itself was spacious—actually larger than many hotels I’ve stayed at. The ensuite bathroom and shower were compact but perfectly functional, and the Wi-Fi was strong and reliable. Having a working elevator made things so much easier, especially with our heavy luggage. Even though the room faces an open courtyard where students gather, there was absolutely no noise disturbance—it never got loud late into the night. There are several lounges, a small pantry, and even a games room, which added to the lively campus vibe. Breakfast was outstanding—the dining hall was huge, well-organized, and full of freshly cooked food: eggs, sausages, haggis, cereals, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a wide variety of breads. The energy in the space was electric—full of youthful buzz, just like any real university campus. Located right at the foot of Arthur’s Seat, the surroundings are stunning. Plus, getting to the city center is super easy—buses run frequently, and it’s actually not far to walk if you’re up for a scenic stroll. A truly memorable stay with great value and a fantastic atmosphere.
Smiths Guest House was an absolute gem during our stay in Edinburgh—exactly the kind of cozy, well-located place that makes travel so enjoyable. We chose it for its excellent value and weren’t disappointed at all. The room itself was charming with a vintage feel, yet fully equipped with everything we needed. The bed was incredibly comfortable, featuring four pillows, and the whole space felt clean and welcoming. The bathroom was compact—typical of Scottish guesthouses—but perfectly functional, with all essentials included, except for a slightly small sink. Our host Neil was incredibly kind and helpful. Even though our English wasn’t perfect, he patiently explained everything, making us feel at home right away. The carpeted floor might not be everyone’s favorite, but it was spotless and added to the warm, lived-in vibe. Location-wise, it’s fantastic—just steps from bus stops (the 12 and 24 line) heading straight into the city center and Portobello Beach. A short walk behind the property leads to another main road packed with multiple bus routes. Right outside the door is a small local market called Margiotta, offering a variety of affordable groceries and snacks. There’s also a tiny convenience store just across the street with a similar selection. Nearby, a little burger joint serves decent quick bites, and a café nearby offers great grab-and-go breakfast wraps. One thing to note: the entrance has narrow stairs—so keep that in mind if you’re mobility-challenged. We checked out early one morning at 4 AM without any hassle—we simply left the key on a hook near the door. Overall, this was a top-tier experience. If we ever return to Edinburgh, Smiths will definitely be on our list. Highly recommended!
My flight was unexpectedly cancelled, so I had to extend my stay by one day—my first time staying at a backpacker hostel, and honestly, it turned out to be a really pleasant surprise. We arrived at 10 AM, and since check-out wasn’t until 11 AM, we’d already booked a castle tour for 11 AM the next day. I was worried we’d miss the key handover after returning from the tour, which could’ve been as late as 7 PM—but the staff were incredibly helpful and proactive in finding a solution. They made sure everything ran smoothly, so we could enjoy our full day without any stress. As a hostel, the overall vibe is warm and welcoming. We stayed in a top-floor triple room with a double bed and a single—one of the best layouts for older guests who don’t want to climb stairs. The shared bathroom on the floor was spotless and well-maintained, and fellow guests were respectful and considerate. Inside the room, there’s a sink (a huge plus for washing fruit or brushing teeth), a TV, a small safe, bedside table with mirror, chest of drawers, and a cute built-in closet. One tiny improvement? More hanging space would be great, but otherwise, everything works perfectly. Great value, excellent service, and a really friendly atmosphere—definitely worth recommending.
Absolutely loved our stay at Dalry Guesthouse! The location is fantastic—just steps away from the subway and right next to a Lidl, which made grabbing essentials super convenient. The room was clean, well-sized, and cozy with everything we needed. Breakfast was a real highlight—fresh, hearty, and full of local flavor. The staff went above and beyond with their warm hospitality, always ready to help or offer tips. The neighborhood itself has a vibrant, multicultural vibe, with diverse cafes and shops around every corner. It’s such a welcoming, authentic part of Edinburgh. For a budget-friendly yet high-quality experience, this place truly delivers. Highly recommend for travelers who want comfort, convenience, and a genuine local feel.
We stayed in a spacious room at this guesthouse, featuring a double bed and a single bed, along with a compact private bathroom—perfect for our needs. The Wi-Fi was excellent, making it easy to stay connected throughout our trip. Breakfast was simple but sufficient, offering a good start to the day. The location was outstanding—just a 1.5-kilometer walk to the city center, which is very manageable on foot. Right across from the property, there’s a bus stop that serves routes in every direction, making public transportation incredibly convenient. Whether you're exploring Edinburgh's historic sites or just want to get around town easily, this place offers great access without the hassle. Overall, a comfortable and practical choice for travelers looking for a quiet yet well-connected base.
The moment I walked into the hotel, it felt like coming home—warm, cozy, and spotless. The room had everything I needed: a coffee corner, plenty of towels, a hairdryer, and even a small sink. The shared bathroom was always clean and easily accessible. Everything I needed was within reach, and the location is perfect—everything you’d want is nearby, with the city center just a short walk away. It’s hard to find a better place to stay in Edinburgh. Highly recommend this gem!
My stay at this hostel was absolutely fantastic from the moment I arrived. The front desk staff were incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm—they gave us great local tips and made us feel right at home. The rooms were clean, well-organized, and comfortably furnished with everything we needed. I especially appreciated the thoughtful layout and quiet atmosphere, perfect for a good night’s sleep. It’s rare to find such a friendly, well-run place with such excellent value. I’d highly recommend it to any traveler visiting Edinburgh—this is definitely a top choice for budget-friendly, quality accommodation.
Staying at Sakura Edinburgh Guest House was an absolute highlight of my trip to Edinburgh! The location is perfect—right next to the subway station, making it super easy to get around the city, whether you're heading to the historic center, museums, or shopping areas. I loved that there's unlimited fresh coffee available every day—such a thoughtful touch—and plenty of free drinking water, which made staying hydrated a breeze. The place is clean, cozy, and warmly decorated with a homely vibe. The staff are friendly and helpful, making the whole experience feel personal and welcoming. It's hard to find a better value-for-money option in this area. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this guest house to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
Staying at Prestonfield House felt like stepping into a classic British country estate—seriously elegant and full of charm. The property is nestled in a private grounds, giving it a peaceful, secluded vibe that’s perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway. While the location is a bit off the beaten path, it's easily accessible by train or car, and the surrounding countryside adds to the overall experience. The architecture and interiors are incredibly photogenic—every corner looks like a scene from a period drama. The only minor downside is some noticeable sound transfer between floors, so quiet moments might be interrupted occasionally. But honestly, the ambiance, privacy, and unique character more than make up for it. A truly memorable stay with high value for money.
Staying at Barony House felt like coming home—warm, welcoming, and full of heart. The location is perfect: quiet and peaceful just outside the city center, yet only a short walk from buses and all major attractions. Free parking nearby is a huge plus. The rooms are absolutely enchanting—each one feels like stepping into a beautifully preserved Victorian-era home, with elegant details and cozy charm. The breakfast is unforgettable—ordered the night before and freshly prepared in the morning using top-quality local ingredients. It’s hands-down the best breakfast I’ve had in the UK. Susan and Paul go above and beyond to make every guest feel special. Their passion for hospitality is genuine and tangible. Whether it’s a small request or a personal need, they anticipate it before you even ask. This isn’t just a hotel—it’s a family experience. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning my return. If you’re looking for authenticity, comfort, and heartfelt service, this is it.
This place is absolutely perfect in every way! The hosts are incredibly warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated—old-world charm blended seamlessly with modern touches, creating a truly unique atmosphere. I especially loved the breakfast area: fresh, delicious meals prepared on-site, served in a cozy, inviting space. The bathroom was spotless, brand new, and impeccably clean—every detail shows care and attention. While it’s not right in the city center, that’s actually a plus: quiet, peaceful, yet just a 1-minute walk to the bus stop. You’re only a few stops away from everything you need, and the convenience of public transport makes it easy to explore Edinburgh without hassle. It’s ideal for solo travelers like me—safe, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a charming, well-kept gem off the beaten path.
We booked 94DR for a family reunion in early April and it was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, everything felt thoughtfully planned and incredibly welcoming. We had the entire property to ourselves, which made the gathering so much more special—spacious, beautifully designed, and full of character. The living areas were cozy yet expansive, perfect for relaxing or hosting our big celebration. Paul, the host, went above and beyond in every way. He helped us plan every detail—from arranging a delicious Scottish dinner he personally cooked (which tasted like something from a Michelin-starred restaurant) to organizing a traditional bagpipe player and drummer for our event. He even recommended an amazing photographer, Marta Rocci, who captured our family moments perfectly. The fridge was stocked with drinks and snacks, extra towels were ready, and fresh flowers added a lovely touch. The garden is spacious, private, and inviting—ideal for morning coffee or evening chats under the stars. Paul knows Edinburgh inside out and shared fantastic tips on where to eat, what to see, and how to make the most of our trip. Whether you're visiting for a family reunion, a getaway, or just to experience authentic Scottish charm, 94DR is the perfect base. But honestly, the real highlight was Paul himself—a true professional who makes every guest feel like family. If you're looking for a memorable stay with personal care and attention to detail, this place is a must-book. I can’t recommend it enough.
